Kratak osvrt DV-a na uvraženo mišljenje o Božijim sportskim afinitetima

Zašto neki misle da Bog prati fudbal? Navijači se mole, fudbaleri istrčavaju na teren krsteći se a kad daju gol gledaju ka nebu ili pokazuju prstom gore na Onoga za koga misle da im je pomogao da ostvare pogodak. Oba tima na terenu misle da je Bog na njihovoj strani. Ako i gleda fudbal, Bog ispada da nije baš vjeran navijač – današnji dobitnik već sjutra može biti gubitnik. Ili su, možda, okolnosti i sportska sreća često puta jači pa Njegov favorit i štićenik izgubi?
Možda takva uvjerenja vuku korijene još iz antičkih vremena i sportskih takmičenja u drevnoj Grčkoj i ispod Olimpa sa kojeg su bogovi gledali na svoje miljenike, ali ona nemaju veze sa hrišćanstvom. Divno je to što su Kaka i društvo hrišćani i što propagiraju svoju vjeru javnom molitvom i majicama sa natpisima ‘Isus’, samo se nadamo da, kad se eto mole u svojim prostorijama pred utakmicu, da se mole za snagu da odrade svoj posao, za požrtvovanje na utakmici, da ne povrijede ili osakate koga čak ni nenamjerno, da ni sami ne budu povrijeđeni, za poštenu igru kako nekoga ne bi oštetili nepostojećim i izmišljenim penalima…
Ako je tako, onda svaka čast! U suprotnom, ako se mole za pobjedu, onda je to paganstvo a ne hrišćanstvo. Uz to čvrsto vjerujemo da je brat Kaka, kad je već kod kuće pogledao snimak pred golom i onaj uspješno odglumljeni faul svog kolege, da je odmah, posramljen, izbrisao sa svog aparata izvođenje penala koje je, tada uz širok osmjeh, snimio sa tribina.

GOD AND FOOTBALL

A Brief Comment by DV on the Common Belief about God’s Sporting Preferences

Why do some people believe that God follows football? Fans pray, football players cross themselves as they enter the pitch, and when they score a goal, they look up to the sky or point upward to the One they believe helped them score. Both teams on the field believe God is on their side. If God does watch football, He doesn’t seem like a very loyal fan — today’s winner can easily be tomorrow’s loser. Or perhaps circumstances and sporting luck are often stronger, and His favorite and protégé still loses?

Maybe such beliefs have their roots in ancient times and the sporting competitions of ancient Greece, beneath Mount Olympus where the gods watched over their favorites — but these ideas have nothing to do with Christianity. It’s wonderful that Kaká and his teammates are Christians and that they express their faith through public prayer and shirts with the word “Jesus” on them. We just hope that when they pray in their locker rooms before the match, they are praying for strength to do their job, for selflessness on the pitch, that they don’t injure or cripple anyone — even unintentionally — that they themselves aren’t injured, and that they play fairly, so they don’t harm anyone through nonexistent or fabricated penalties…

If that’s the case, then all respect to them! Otherwise, if they’re praying for victory, then that’s paganism, not Christianity. Furthermore, we firmly believe that brother Kaká, once he got home and rewatched the footage of the penalty area and the successfully acted foul by his teammate, immediately — ashamed — deleted the recording of the penalty he had happily filmed from the stands.
