Vjera i nada
On je Avramov Bog i On je i naš Bog.

God’s Sacrificial Love

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:19)
God Has Provided!
Abraham was asked to sacrifice Isaac and named the place: “The Lord will provide!” (Genesis 22).
This event, recorded in Genesis 22, is one of the most dramatic and significant episodes in the book of Genesis. God’s command for Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, the sorrowful ascent of Abraham and Isaac to the place of sacrifice, the painful binding and laying on the altar, and the last-minute intervention from heaven make this one of the most powerful scenes in all of Scripture.
Faith and Hope
In Genesis 22, we read about the ultimate test of Abraham’s faith, comparable only to the original call God gave him to leave his home and family. Though we are told this was a test, the command from God was very real. All the promised blessings were to be fulfilled through Isaac. Torn between love for his son and obedience to God, Abraham faced an excruciating decision. We witness how faith and hope overcome fear and doubt as Abraham raises the knife to sacrifice Isaac. In doing so, Abraham demonstrated his willingness to place God’s call above every other commitment—and in that moment, the test ended.
The Lamb Was Provided!
A ram was offered in Isaac’s place, and the angel declared that Abraham’s act of obedience had elevated the promise to a new level. The promises now became a firm guarantee of countless descendants, possession of the land, and blessings upon all nations through Abraham.
In Genesis 22:16–18, we read God’s final words to Abraham in the book of Genesis—and the weight of those words should not be overlooked. From that moment on, there was no longer any doubt about the fulfillment of God’s promises.
The immediate fulfillment of Abraham’s faith was the ram (Genesis 22:13), but the ultimate fulfillment is the Lamb of God (John 1:29, 36).
God’s Sacrificial Love
In the New Testament, the significance of Isaac’s sacrifice goes beyond being a supreme example of human devotion and obedience (Hebrews 11:17–19). It becomes a powerful image of God’s sacrificial love.
Just as Abraham gave his only son as a sacrifice, so the Father “did not spare His own Son” for the sake of this world (Romans 8:32a; John 3:16).
The place where the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, died was a place God had prepared in advance. Just as the ram died in Isaac’s place, so the Lord Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45).
The Lord Jesus paid the full price to set us free from the bondage of sin and death.
God Cares!
“…but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”
(Romans 8:32b)
If God gave His best—His beloved Son—to bring us salvation, then He will surely give everything needed to complete the work that began at the cross on Calvary.
Let us be encouraged, because God has not stopped caring. He is the God of Abraham—and He is our God too.
In his letter to the Philippians, the apostle Paul knew this truth. That’s why he was encouraged and why he encouraged others with these words:
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:19)
